music HELP!

Ok ladies, I need HELP! We are compiling our list of reception songs for our DJ. I'd like to have this done already, but we've hit a wall in thinking about and finding good songs for the reception. I need song ideas - we don't want to play any "new" music....mainly oldies (motown) and then 70's and 80's for dancing later in the night. So please leave your favorite wedding songs (or stuff that is good for dancing) so I can add them all to the list! Or if you have websites with good lists of wedding reception music, leave that as well!! THANKS!

We did the same thing! I will see if I can find our list on my home computer. We did a lot of music by Sam Cooke, The Tams, Four Tops, Otis Redding, Van Morrison, Marvin Gaye, Smokey Robinson,Elvis, etc.

Katies list sounds perfect.....you gotta add Etta James "at last" in there, what a great song.

We are doing the same thing right now and I have no idea what I am doing. I am trying to stick with a lot of classics like The Beatles and Marvin Gaye. Good luck sister.

I'm not married, but I consider Boogie Shoes (KC and the Sunshine Band), You're all I need to get by (Marvin Gaye), Footloose (Kenny Loggins), Shower the People (James Taylor), Dancing on the Ceiling or All Night Long (Lionel Richie), I Want You Back (Jackson 5) and The Way You Make Me Feel (Michael Jackson) my personal "must haves" at a wedding! Just a few ideas...hope it was at least a little help!

You asked the right girl... (sort of):

-Brandy, you're a fine girl (Looking Glass)
-old time rock and roll (Bob Seger)
-The Motown Song, Twistin' the Night Away, This Old Heart of Mine (Rod Stewart)

And you gotta have some 80's - "Take Me Home Tonight" ;-)

And just about every other song I rock out to on our local "all about the music" station ;-)

Don't forget Van Morrison!

The band I had at my wedding has a website with a list of songs: www.meetthepressmusic.com! They played a lot of motown, great slow songs and music that everyone loved! Good luck! Oh, another band some friends have used that also have a song list is:
www.funkmonster.com!

you can't forget frank sinatra/Dean Martin. You would think we were 50 & not 28 (at the time)! We had a band that played a lot of this type of music. Since you are having a dj the options are endless. Pick music you like! I forget most of it. Lots of ended the night- b/c we got married in NY with the Blues Brothers song "Sweet Home Chicago" it was a fun ending. Believe me, don't go too crazy over play lists, you won't remember a thing, just that is was wonderful! xox
